— Owners of model year 2006 Chrysler 300C, Dodge Charger and Magnum vehicles might finally get official answers as to why their engines decide to stall without warning.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has opened an investigation into the problem, focusing on 192,000 vehicles with 5.7L or 6.1L 8-cylinder HEMI engines.
According to government documents, there have been 54 complaints about stalling engines, and all those complaints said the problem occurred after putting gas in the tank.
Additionally, 48 complaints allege the problem happened numerous times and seven owners said they couldn’t get the vehicle to start at all.
NHTSA said they are seeing a trend because over half the complaints poured in over the past eight months.
Dealers that have inspected the vehicles said the problem is inside the gas tank and owners were looking at a $2000 invoice to fix the issue. If the government finds a safety problem exists, those vehicles would be fixed at no charge once a recall has been ordered. However, that hasn’t happened yet.
