Chrysler Recalls 920,000 Jeep Liberty and Grand Cherokee Vehicles
Air bags could deploy even though you aren't in a crash.

— Chrysler is recalling almost 920,000 vehicles worldwide because the air bags could deploy while you’re safely driving.

The recall affects model year 2002-2003 Jeep Liberty vehicles manufactured January 9, 2001, through March 28, 2003, and 2002-2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee vehicles manufactured February 13, 2001, through May 23, 2003.

Chrysler says the air bag control module is the problem, and if it goes wacky while you’re driving, you could be smacked by the front or side curtain air bags.  You might also feel the seat belt tighten because the vehicle is sensing a crash is about to happen.

The recall won’t begin until January, 2013.  Chrysler will notify owners and dealers will install a supplemental jumper harness to the air bag control module.

If you're an owner and have questions, contact Chrysler at 800-247-9753 and reference recall number M35.
