On June 8, 2014 while I was on my way to church driving my 2013 Nissan Pathfinder Plantium SUV, with my sunroof retracted, without any warning I heard this loud bang. It sounded like a bomb had gone off. . I thought maybe I blew a tire or someone was shooting at me. There weren't any vehicles in front of me on the highway. When I stopped at a light, I heard this cracking sound. I looked up and the noise was coming from my sunroof. I sled the sunroof forward and closed the cover so that no glass would get into my SUV.

When I got to church, I stood up on the running board and saw that there was a hole in my sunroof and the glass cracked but still intact. I took pictures and the next day called the dealership where I purchased the vehicle. I told them what happened and they said to bring it in the following day. When I was telling the service manager what happened they act like they didn't believe. I showed them a stack of complaints where this has happened before with other Nissan vehicles and other manufacturer vehicles. The dealer said they would contact Nissan to see if it would be covered under warranty. A couple of hours later, the service manager calls me and says that Nissan wasn't going to pay for the sunroof damage. They claimed a rock had gotten lodge into the sunroof track prior to this happening. By the rock hitting a stress point, it cause the glass to explode. I told the service manager that I was not buying that BS.

This is a big safety issue because I could have had an accident. Nissan knows that this is problem and just don't want to step up to the plate and fix the problem. I have already contacted the Consumer Protection Division in my state. They told me to send a certified letter to Nissan demanding that they pay for the damages and that my vehicle is still under warranty so that I should not be getting the run around. If they still refuse to pay, they recommend I get a Lemon Law attorney and take them to court.
