Driving down highway with no traffic in sight. Big explosion overhead, and the sunroof exploded. Thought at first someone had hit us, but there was no traffic. Some glass came inside. Obviously this is very dangerous. Price from Nissan dealership to replace was $1076 for glass plus labor which was quoted at $770.

This is a panoramic roof and the broken piece was the track operated piece only. Bought a used one from a wreckers for $350 and had it installed for $95 vs $770??? Oh yes, Nissan dealer offered me a used one, but they wanted $750. Screw you Nissan, I will never own or recommend a Nissan.

sunroof exploded sunroof exploded sunroof exploded

  1. It exploded outward, sounded like large rock hitting windshield
  2. 30 minute's later 5" circular piece departed the vehicle (feel out) wind noise started.
  3. Dealership said it was not warranted, why don't I go though insurance (none of their business).
  4. Part came in $790, dealer would not replace, sent me to glass place.
  5. Glass place sent me back to dealer, would not touch this one, any other piece of glass but sun roof
  6. Different Nissan Deal 75KM away asked why I did not go though insurance, booked in for repair, 7, Would not give repair estimate other than saying 2 to 10 hours.
  7. Was told I could rent a car from them while mine was being repaired 2+ maybe.

It does look like I will be on the hook for about $1900 in repairs, and if I was to rent a car from Nissan maybe more. Every time I said the word warranty the air went quiet and the subject changed.

Just to let you know the rear sun roof was the one to explode.

When your sunroof explodes without any warning and there is nobody around, I think this is a manufacturers defect. Our car does not get used in the winter very often and if we need to put a sunroof in every time a small piece of anything hits it, I think it is not built properly. Nissan says it is not their problem so anyone who owns a Nissan with a sunroof or is thinking of purchasing one better be ready to put out $1500-2000 every time this happens, not to mention it leaks real bad with no glass. Be ready at all times for a really loud gunshot noise and a shower of glass on anyone in your car. This is not a warranty issue for them so you can keep paying for this forever
