Not only is the dash melting and everything sticks to it (lint etc) and my dash looks nasty it has also started cracking on each end of the dash and all the way around the steering wheel. My nice all options car looks like a hoopty now especially since the a/c went out and that's gonna cost a $1000 to fix by the way. This is the first Nissian I have purchased and it sure has left a bad taste in my mouth!

Altima ES 3.2L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 13,000 miles

I purchased a 2008 Nissan Altima 3.5 SE Coupe in January, that had only 13k miles on it. The dash was sticky when I bought it. I assumed a previous owner had a dash mat and the mat was removed before the dealership put it on the lot.

After I had the car for a month, I began to research the dash of this particular model. Saw a forum with over 400 posts of sticky/melting dashes for 2007-2008 Altimas. Looking at my car history, my car originally came from New Orleans. One forum I was on, led me to the Nissan Facebook page. I read through the page and saw that they were really good at responding to everyone's posts. I stated my problem of the sticky dash and told them the glare is very dangerous.

I was instructed to go to my Nissan dealer and have a diagnostics done. I went to the Nissan dealer, they had no idea what I was talking about. The gentleman in the service department told me to clean my dash with dawn soap and water. He said Nissan used a black plastic paint on the dash and the paint just needs to be wiped off. I explained it is the dash itself that is sticky, not something melting off my dash that is melting. He didn't even bother to look at it and told me to get a dash mat. He also told me not to use Armour All to clean my dash as it will ruin the dash. I told him I haven't, but isn't Amour All made to clean interiors of vehicles and if a cleaner can cause a dash to melt, Nissan needs to let it's consumers know of that fact. He said it is in the owners manual.

My car did not come with an owners manual and my salesman said he would get one for me, of which he has not, but that is a whole other issue. I looked up the manual online, and nowhere in that manual does it state anywhere about not cleaning dashes with Armour All. Nissan should take responsibility for making crappy dashes and put a recall out and replace them.

It is dangerous as the slick surface of my dash glares onto my windshield and totally obstructs my view. I carry a black towel with me to throw on my dash when the glare is obstructing my vision. I don't want a stupid looking dash mat, I want a dash that is not melting. I want a dash that is not faulty. I want Nissan to step up and do the right thing and correct this problem!

My 2008 Altima coupe also has a melting dash. In 2013 I contacted my local dealership and Nissan directly and they both told me there was nothing they could do to help me because the car is out of warranty. Are they not concerned at all that the glare from the shine is blinding and could cause an accident? It's a poor quality issue they should take responsibility for before someone is hurt or killed. This was my 4th Nissan and now last because of their unwillingness to correct a potentially dangerous flaw.

It ashamed that majority nissan owner having same problem and issues. It should not be questionable nissan is lacking with interior dysfunctional design. It not good for health hazard to have melting dashboard. Who know what it is made out of. chemical n substance can affect internal issue by breathing up in the air. Nissan you need to do something about it. If u know its a cause issue in southern area than why bother selling the car. This should be recall.

My Altima Coupe has a lot of problems. I brought it brand new at the end of 2007 when the Altima coupe first came out to the market. Approximately three years later my dashboard melted. At first I did not know what the problem was. I live in New Orleans and it is very hot and humid. Over time the dashboard started to melt and spread. The glare is very dangerous. I drove my car one night and the street lights was reflecting onto the dashboard and I cannot see. My car went off on the curve of the street and blew out my tire and broke my rim. Nissan should deem this problem as a recall.

Also, last year my transmission died out when I was driving on the highway. My car only have 80K miles. Luckily Nissan extended the warranty for the CVT transmission. My passenger seat also has a hard time sensing someone; so the air bag would indicate that no one is sitting in the passenger seat. Lastly, my exterior paint have been chipping.

Overall, I have a bad experience with my car. I hope Nissan compensates their consumers with a dashboard replacement.

dashboard is melting dashboard is melting dashboard is melting dashboard is melting dashboard is melting

A few months after I bought my pre-owned 2008 Altima in September 2014, I began noticing issues with it. The dashboard became increasingly sticky along its full length. The sticky areas spread over time, and attracted debris, which stuck to it. The shiny surface of the dashboard reflects on the windshield, where it produces an intense glare that often obstructs my field of vision while I am driving. The appearance of the dashboard is disgusting.

I mentioned this issue to the Orlando dealership that sold me the car and they declined responsibility for the defect. They asked if I park it outdoors.

I now know that this is a recognized issue with the 2008 Altima in warm climates. It is a manufacturer's defect and needs to be addressed with a recall, as Toyota did when a similar defect was identified in their cars.

If this issue is not addressed by Nissan in a timely manner, I will never purchase another of their vehicles (this was my third). If any harm comes to me or anyone else as a result of the compromised visibility now caused by the glare of the melting dashboard on the windshield, Nissan will have even more adverse publicity to contend with.

My 2008 Nissan Altima dashboard is melting. It is sticky and hard to see out of in the sun on both driver's and passenger's side. I have tried to clean it but the cloth just sticks right to it and lint clings on to the dash. Nissan should recall and fix this problem. Its dangerous to dive during the day because my view is obstructed by a serious glare. So disappointed that there is no fix.

My 2008 Nissan Altima dashboard is melting and now it became sticky and shiny. While driving in direct sun it creates a glare on the windshield. and it becomes hard to see clearly on the road.some time glare is so much you hardly can see some one walking on the road or signal.it is potential safety hazard and should be fixed.it is something like playing with someone's life. This is happening in Texas.I am not sure about the other state. Maybe Nissan have used a bad quality material which is not tested in their lab or may be they have ignored this. I have seen other people screaming Nissan on the melting dash. Nissan should recall and fix this problem with no cost.

The dash of my car is cracked all over. I took it to the service center in San Juan and they said that the warranty was expired. I have seen many, many Nissans including Muranos with the same problem. I am sure that it is a manufacturers defect that should be taken care by Nissan. Otherwise I will never buy or recommend a Nissan in the future. The CVT transmission had to be replaced a few months ago. I expect somebody from Nissan to contact me about this problem soon.

Over the course of the past year or more, my dashboard has slowly been melting. I started noticing that my fingernail could make a permanent impression in the material, which should not be able to happen. As it has gotten worse, the melted area is causing a glare on the windshield when exposed to sunlight. This glare has cause no less than 5 close calls with car accidents or hitting a pedestrian.

Nissan is blowing this off, especially if you are not the original owner. I have brought it up to my local dealerships a few times and was told that I had used a chemical cleaner that caused the degradation (I didn't), and they will not do anything unless I want to pay out of pocket to replace the entire dashboard. After another near miss driving home, I was frustrated enough to call the Nissan Corporation and spoke with someone in customer service. The gal told me that I need to take it back to the dealership so they can perform an official inspection of the vehicle, and THEN I need to call the national customer service back with the dealership's recommendations. Getting the runaround on an issue that is dangerous is extremely frustrating.

Apart from the danger of the glare due to the shine, the dashboard is sticky. My dogs rode in my car about 6 months ago and I am still unable to remove the hair that landed on the dashboard. It has become part of the dashboard since it is melting and sticky. There is nothing I have found that will work to clean it or remove the residue.

Nissan needs to take responsibility for using shoddy materials, which is causing dangerous glare on the windshield.

About 6 months ago I noticed that the car my college age daughter was driving had a really sticky dashboard. The hotter the weather got, the worse the dashboard got. It's so shiny that now it reflects the dash onto the windshield. It's very dangerous because the seat is low anyways and the reflection is worse nearer the lower half of the glass. The resale value is lower because it looks and feels terrible. Toyota made good on their problems with dashboards and now it's time for Nissan to do the same. This has made my daughter reconsider her plan to buy a Nissan Rogue when she graduates!

Original owner, 51,000 miles and great shape, garaged. Noticed sticky substance on dash and tried to clean made more mess. Unable to clean. Glare from sun causes danger in driving.

Nissan dealer refused to replace.

Nissan USA refused to replace, regardless of the number of complaints and they used inferior raw materials to manufacture the dashboards in Altimas and other Nissan products.

This is third and last Nissan I will own.

Poor customer service and arrogant Nissan employees allows us consumers to make alternative choices and plan to exercise that choice.

MY 2008 NISSAN ALTIMA DASHBOARD IS MELTING AND STICKY. THIS IS DISGUSTING AND ANNOYING. ALSO THE SUN REFLECT RIGHT INTO YOUR EYES AND THAT MAKES IT DIFFICULT AND DANGEROUS WHILE DRIVING THE CAR.

I WENT TO NISSAN DEALERSHIP WHERE I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE AND THEY TOLD ME THE ESTIMATED REPAIR COST IS $2129.22.THE NISSAN DEALERSHIP HAVE TOLD ME THEY HAVE HAD THIS PROBLEM BEFORE. I HAVE CONTACTED NISSAN CONSUMER AFFAIRS AND THEY TOLD ME THE CAR IS NOT A RECALL FOR THAT PROBLEM. BASICALLY NISSAN DOES NOT WANT TO ADMIT THERE IS AN ISSUE WITH THE DASHBOARD OF THE 2008 NISSAN ALTIMA.

THERE ARE SO MANY OTHER PEOPLE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM, IT IS TIME FOR NISSAN TO REALIZE THE MATERIAL THEY USED IS A POOR QUALITY AND IT SHOULD BE A RECALL FOR THIS PARTICULAR YEAR AND MODEL. I ALSO CONTACTED WITH NHTFA (NATIONAL HIGHWAY TRAFFIC SAFETY ADMINISTRATION) AND REPORTED THE PROBLEM. I WILL KEEP FIGHTING, IF I HAVE TO TAKE IT TO THE MEDIA, I WILL. TO REPAIR THE DASHBOARD IT SHOULDN'T BE MY RESPONSIBILITY, I FEEL THEY ONLY CARE TO SELL THE CAR AND MAKE MONEY OFF YOU.
