Terrain SLE 2.4L

Engine stalled on highway would not restart just loud clunking and grinding no warning at all this was going to happen . Towed to shop was informed timing chain damage, Camshafts slip valves have hit the Pistons. The excessive force has broken 12 of the 16 rocker arms needs new engine replacement . Gmc will not help with any repair even though my satisfaction with their product is so important to them as it says on the letter about this problem . The repair price from the shop is so high I can't get it fixed. I'm not rich, I have a disabled daughter at home that needs me so the car is just sitting on hold . Very disappointed with GMC 69,000 miles on a vehicle should not have this problem . Oh just one more thing the vehicle is in great shape inside and out and you're more then welcome to buy it back. I will sell it to Gmc for the repair price of 8500.00 just needs a motor.

To Who it may concern, Oct. 30/17

My name is Jackie Leveille and I live in Chatham Ontario. I am writing this letter in hopes of receiving some help from General Motors of Canada. In November of 2009 I purchased a 2010 GMC Terrain from a dealership in Windsor, which I picked up in February of 2010. I made the decision to purchase this vehicle because I wanted a mid size SUV and loved the fact that this was a Canadian made vehicle, assembled just up the road from me in Ingersol Ontario at the Cami plant. After having this vehicle for over 6 years there came a time when my oldest daughter, a single mother with two kids, was in need of a better and bigger vehicle and I decided in September of 2016 to gift this vehicle to her and I went out and bought a 2017 Equinox, another GM vehicle. On October the 10th 2017 my daughter was on her way home from Oakville Ontario, after taking her oldest daughter to see her surgeon, when the car broke down near Blenheim. My husband was home at the time and went to help her but ended up having to have the car towed. They had called Heuvelmans in Chatham but they said that they would not be able to even look at the vehicle for a few days, so we then called Canadian Tire who could look at it that day. With our daughter being a single mom, she needed a vehicle right away so that is why we chose to have the car towed to Canadian Tire. After diagnosing the car, Lynn from Canadian Tire called and said the timing chain was stretched and had caused damage to the engine and she suggested us calling GM because to her it sounded like a recall she had heard of. I do want to thank Lynn for all her help. She did not charge us for the diagnostic and genuinely seemed to care. We then contacted GM of Canada and told them what was happening. At first we were told they could not help us but on the Thursday night a customer service rep called my husband and told him to have the car towed to Heuvelmans saying how they may be able to help us after all. We then contacted Heuvelmans and Frank went down to first look at the car. He suggested that maybe Canadian Tire was wrong and that it was not as bad as Canadian Tire had said and he wanted to be sure we understood that we would be charged for the diagnostic. So we had it towed to Heuvelmans, (another 84.50 for that tow). In the meantime our daughter had to rent a vehicle because they could not provide her with a loaner for a while, this cost her over $500.00. After a few days we were told that it would need a new engine estimated to cost $8500.00 CDN We had the car towed to the GM dealer because we were believing that GM was going to help us but instead it was now going to cost more in addition to the extra tow. In the meantime we had been researching this issue on the web as well as our Pastor, a former GM employee, sent us a link to the recall for these vehicles with the exact problem my car was experiencing……timing chain guide broke causing chain to stretch and damaging the engine on 2010 GMC Terrain with a 2.4 litre engine. Each time we talked to GM Canada we were told that my vehicle did not have the VIN number to make it eligible for this recall/warranty. For the other vehicles they have extended the warranty to 10 years or 195000 km, by the way this vehicle is 7 years old and has 108000 km on it, well within this extended warranty coverage. We have called numerous times to Gm Canada with no help.

How does GM expect a single mother with two children to pay for these repairs? She already works two jobs to provide for her family, and of course we are here to help her which is why we have put this $8869.00 bill on our line of credit. What I am hoping is that there is someone out there with some compassion and that GM will step up and do what is right to help out this mom.

Thank you

Aprox 2 years ago without warning the 2010 Terrain would not start and I had no idea what was wrong with the car. and then I had it Towed to the dealer I purchased it at and they told me it was no longer under waranty and that the timimng chain was broken. at that time they did cover the repairs as this had been the 4th purchase i had bought or leased from GMC it is now 2 years later now the check engine light is on and when i spoke to the onstar rep she claims it is the transmission issue again and at this time i can't afford to purchase or pay for repairs that should have lasted more than 2 years the car now only has aprox 71000 miles on it and its is mostly highway miles also The engine light came on and I took the car for oil change which it needed and that was only a few weeks ago and the light was out for a few days now the light wont go out some times it does right after start then it comes back on
