CarComplaints.com Notes: How can we give the 2001 model year a "seal of pretty good" when it has some problems with a slipping transmission and a known problem with the speed activation control switch? Because it's not the 2002. That's how.

I was an automotive technician for over 25 years, I also worked for FORD MOTOR COMPANY in the Ranger pickup assembly plant in NJ. I see people make claims they are going to buy a foriegn built automobile because of the problems they have with their american built auto, many of the parts that break are parts imported from Asain countries, as 15% or more of your USA built vehicle contains foreign parts and materials.
My neighbor broke her shift lever also, I found a used steering column for $175, it should take me about an hour to swap out the old with the replacement, any body shop or auto repair facility would do the same, I don't understand why everyone runs back to the dealers for repairs on cars and trucks out of warranty.
The neighbor claimed she had trouble getting the shifter in the Park position for a very long time, I'm sure this was a factor in the failure of the part, she should have told me that a long time ago, it may have saved her from this inconveinence.
If it don't fit get a bigger hammer!
