Initially it was just 5th gear that would not stay in place, making 5th gear inoperable. However, just recently 1st and 2nd gears have also failed in the same manner. The mechanic who worked on the car last told me it was due to "worn blocker rings." When I asked if it was normal to see this problem under 30k miles,he said no. When I pressed the mechanic for a reason that THREE blocker rings would wear out under 30k miles, he said "Speed Shifting" was the most likely cause. At this point my husband spoke up and informed him that I drove like a grandma and that I never speed shift. SO, now I have the car back.. and guess what,... they are refusing to replace 3rd and 4th gear, even tho they will most likely go out. There have been sooooo many other things wrong with the car as well, but I think that's the tranny basics..
