problem #2

May 062016

Tribute I 2.5L I4

  • Manual transmission
  • 100,221 miles

A D V E R T I S E M E N T S

SUV engine stumbles, jerks, and nearly stalls when at idle with AC on. It hesitated and stalled in an intersection and my son (driver) was nearly stuck by another car. Mechanics have ruled out the AC compressor, cleaned throttle body but problem persists. Very dangerous. SUV runs well at speed even with AC on....until you have to stop or slow to a near stop. At that point, you must turn off the AC or risk stall.

Tribute 3.0L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 36,000 miles

While driving, the engine will shut down, down to a rough idle like it's running on 3 cyl. At 70mph in the middle lane with a semi behind you and both left and right lanes occupied.....you can imagine the moment of panic. After causing what looks like a NASCAR finish line multi car pileup I pull to the side of the freeway, put it in park and turn off the ignition, count to 3 and restart the engine and it is running perfect. This has now happened 3 times over 4 months. 2 times at 65-70 mph and once at 45 mph. The dealer says that it needs to happen 3 times in series in order to run a diagnostics and have a "check engine light" on. No engine light appears at any time. I have heard that others have had similar problems. This has got to be a safety concern big time!.

I (my wife) love the car and it's paid for. I can't sell it knowing about this crazy problem but it's dangerous driving it not knowing if and when the next time will happen. Hope someone has an answer cause MAZDA dealers in my area change service writers just about every week. I can't trust them to even give me "my" car back. I will never buy a MAZDA again because of poor service and that includes MAZDA CORPORATION. They just don't care at all.
