CarComplaints.com Notes: Although it has a stellar record in terms of vehicle problems, initially the 4th generation (2003 - 2009) 4Runner didn't earn our top "Seal of Awesome" rating because it received poor crash test ratings for rear impacts. However it's proven to have one of the lowest driver death rates out of all vehicles (not just SUVs), so we've bumped it back up to our top award.

Have had several Toyotas and have worked in Honda service dept. for 20 years plus. Brakes were spongy and did not seem to be working like they should. Thinking that Toyota might be interested in a problem like faulty brakes being caused by caliper pistons being seized in caliper they ought to see them. This would have been a major repair for Honda due to the liability nature of a well maintained SUV that the brakes were failing on. I paid core charge for calipers so I could have them and now complaining. Externally calipers look fine. All seals fluid and dust are in great shape. But 3 of the 8 pistons are seized causing bad brake pedal feeling, extended stopping range, and uneven brake pad wear. Toyota was not even interested.
