CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2013-2014 Honda Accord is showing signs of an electrical problem with the starter failing soon after the 36K mile warranty expires. It's compounded by reports that the OEM battery doesn't have sufficient amps to start the V6 reliably after a year or two.

For now we are rating this problem with the "Beware" seal because it's occurring so soon after the 36K mile warranty expires. The upshot is when your Accord won't start, that's never good, but especially bad when it's just a few years old.

Also once again, owners are complaining that the 2013 Honda Accord seats are uncomfortable. Uncomfortable seats has been a significant complaint with the Accord since the 2008 model year.

The car will steer on its on its will fully turn all the way to left by its self and then is quite harder to steer back to the right. You will have to fight with the wheel to keep the car going straight. I have look around quit a bit and have found multiple complaints about this exact issue.

While driving on [XXX] in South Carolina (we are from Ohio and were on a vacation to celebrate [XXX]) we started our turn into the left lane to pass a vehicle when the steering wheel suddenly sharply turned on its own and shot us towards the medium and oncoming traffic. As my husband was able regain control and hard steer to the right before we hit oncoming traffic we were, as you can imagine, terrified. We were able to steer the car to a safe pull off and tried to recover our nerves and start the process of figuring out what was happening and what we were going to do as we were so far away from home. I Googled the problem we were having and learned that we were not alone in having this steering system problem. I was extremely disappointed to learn that this was a known problem but there had been no recall. We had no indications nor any information that this could occur. We located a Honda dealership approximately 22 miles from our location and decided we would carefully try to get to that location. At the dealership we were told it was a known problem but they would have to locate parts, which they did in Atlanta, and have them overnighted if possible. They were very helpful, drove us to a hotel which we paid for, as we waited for parts to arrive. While fixing the electronic steering system they located another issue with another electronic box that had something to do with the starter which needed to be replaced as well. Each of these problems I came to understand were known to Honda, and I believe NHTSA, but no recalls were issued. I'm sorry but I believe that the potential to be killed and to kill others due to the failure of the electronic steering system while driving a vehicle that is known to have these problems is a recall and should be repaired and replaced at Honda's expense not those that invested in what they considered a safe vehicle. Our bill for these repairs was $3,826. 41. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

When driving, the car's steering will jerk sporadically. It is also incredibly hard to turn the wheel. The inspection by the Honda Dealer has proven that it is the power steering rack is faulty. Something has gone wrong and it is making the car dangerous to drive. My safety is at risk because if the car jerks suddenly, I will crash either into a structure or another vehicle likely resulting in death at high speeds. There is no warning light at all. This seems related to the formal safety probe open in May 2021 for 2013-2015 Honda Accords. I have been doing research and a LOT of people are posting about it online.

Car driving normally until sudden power steering failure. Steering wheel stayed straight when I tried to veer left - I had to use two hands to steer for the rest of the drive. This could-??ve been dangerous in the initial moments as I was driving downhill and around a curve in wet weather. No dash lights have come on, and I haven-??t driven it again yet. Car hasn-??t been inspected yet as it-??s Friday afternoon.

Lost ability to steer vehicle. It was impossible to steer the car. The car was running on and in one instance moving at low sped in my own driveway. There have been 3 instances when this happens. The problem went away after turning the car off and restarting the vehicle. 2) the starter won-??t start on occasion as it takes multiple attempts to start vehicle. 3) I had to replace the starter and also a sensor forward collision sensor so the entire dashboard display for every light would turn off. Literally, every light on the dashboard turns on, even for low tire pressure. The bidders concern from operation perspective is the steering. There-??s no doubt in my mind that this is a critical and serious defect with this make and model of the 2013 Honda Accord. I looked online and there are literally thousands of reports of the same issue. There are complaints of uncontrollable steering too. One gentleman did a YouTube video demonstrating what-??s happening. I will do the same for the steering in this vehicle the next time it happens. Why hasn-??t the NHTSA issued a mandatory recall and forced Honda to make this recall happen now. I hope this isn-??t a political decision because I know lives are in serious jeopardy with this loss of ability to steer the vehicle with no warning. Lastly, I-??ve bought and owned 5 Honda in my lifetime: 3 Honda Accords, 1 Odyssey and 1 Pilot and I-??ve never needs to file a complaint in the past as they-??ve always been a reliable, safe vehicle. I-??m extremely concerned about this problem and I urge NHTSA and Honda to do the right thing and issue an immediate recall to remedy this issue. You are now aware of this issue in a formal complaint and it appears that there are already several thousand complaints based on what-??s online. Please take action.

The steering system failed/malfunction. when turning the wheel counter-clockwise, the steering wheel jerks and temporarily shuts down the vehicle even while driving. Steering wheel has failed during the middle of a left hand turn in multiple intersections. Very unsafe and scary situation when the car does not respond or perform any inputs when the drive is trying to correct/move the wheel. the steering wheel stiffens and is unable to be moved for a few seconds while the car is on Drive. The problem has been confirmed by the dealer but stated since there are no codes provided, they are unable to service the vehicle and are unsure what that issue is and what may be causing it. vehicle has been inspected by multiple Honda dealerships, no one is able to determine what is causing this issue they can reproduce it) No warning lamps or messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure. Issue first became apparent and has been getting progressively worse about 2 year ago (150,000 miles)

The steering suddenly became hard to turn right on a freeway going at 60 miles per hour (and came to normal in about 10 seconds) and then in about 10 more minutes when I took a left turn exiting the freeway, the steering remained stuck going left and had to pull it back to center with some effort. Got it checked with a honda dealer and they say something is wrong with the EPS system, where some torque value at rest is incorrect. There is a 13 year extended warranty for EPS torque sensor but only if certain codes show up. Unfortunately those torque sensor DTC codes do not show up on my vehicle and they say it could be a shorted EPS motor and hence it's not being covered in warranty and the current recommendation is changing the entire steering rack and I'm asked to pay out of pocket. There are lot of EPS complaints for 2013 accord

Car power steering wheel was not function, I couldn't turn the power steering wheel and the wheel was shaking, luckily it's not happened while I was driving, the problem occurred when I started the car, there was warning lamps on the dash boards, It happened a few time and I was scare to drive the car. Car was towed to dealer and dealer diagnostic code 34-05 power relay stuck off, it costed me $920 to fix, I saw online so many complains with this model year about the same problem, my car only has 80K miles and always service at dealer. I wrote to Honda corporation and open a complain, they want me to sent all the dealer papers and proof of payment, they said I could get help with the payment in 9 weeks, after 8 weeks I follow up with them and they said they didn't get the paper ( I sent through email reply like they told me) So I took my time and re- sent the papers again, took a lot of my time to upload all the paper they required. Finally they said they got it and the manager will contact me, I got a called and the manager said they will have to confirm with the dealer, took another 2 weeks and after that they call me and said Honda corporation will reimburse me only $300, took another TWO weeks to finally get a check from them, totally 3 months from the time I open a case, what a joke! Please have this car recall and make Honda pay for all the fixing cost since this happened to a lots of vehicle on the road.

The steering wheel stopped turning smoothly and would occasional turn toward the right erratically. The car is available for inspection upon request. Since now the steering wheel will occasional move on it's own or become more difficult to turn, the car is now more difficult to drive and thereby more of a safety risk. The steering problem was confirmed by a local mechanic. The vehicle has not been inspected by the manufacturer, police, or insurance representative regarding this issue. There has been no warning lamps or messages on the dashboard in regards to this steering issue.

In December 2022, I took my 2013 Honda Accord sedan 2.4L EX 4-door to the same Honda dealership where I purchased the vehicle new in December 2012. The car had 81.5k miles on it then, and the issue was with steering and having to always hold the wheel tightly with pressure to the right as it consistently wanted to pull left. After confirming this was not an alignment issue, the Honda dealer put it up on the rack and confirmed the wheel turned quickly all the way to the left, even when idling (I have video of this). There were no stored trouble codes so they performed a torque sensor clear and steering torque learn, which seemed to fix the issue. Note there is a warranty extension (from 5 to 13 years) by Honda for the EPS Torque Sensor (DTC 53-01 or DTC 53-03), for all 2013-14 Accords; however my vehicle did not show either of those diagnostic codes. Now in November 2023 (83.4k miles), the steering has failed again, pulling left but also suddenly becoming tight while steering and then suddenly going slack; at times if I let go of the wheel (safely), the wheel rotates quickly all the way left exactly as it did when up on the rack under a year ago. Took it back to the same Honda dealership service department and, after being asked if I knew I was supposed to drive with two hands on the wheel, left the car with them to check out. The same issue occurred for them. They said they hadn-??t seen this issue before and didn-??t know if it was an issue with the rack or the control module (which are separate components on my model), and that they had to call the Honda engineers to find out where the issue was and what to work on. A day later they were told the rack was the issue and needed to be replaced. The rack itself is $1800 and with labor would cost over $3k. I looked online and saw that many others with the same make/model/year had posted that they have these exact issues, which makes it seem that there is a major (and unsafe) flaw in Honda-??s design.
